Moth Dal Chaat is mouth-watering Indian street food prepared using sprouted Moth dal, also known as Moth bean. Moth dal Chaat is delicious as well as healthy, which is easy to prepare, and everyone enjoys eating it. Let us begin the preparation.
Ingredients for Sprouted Moth Chaat:
Moth Dal - 1/2 cup (100 grams)
Salt - 1/2 tsp
Turmeric Powder - 1/4 tsp
Black Salt - 3/4 tsp
Chaat Masala - 3/4 tsp
Green Chilli - 1 finely chopped
Roasted Cumin seeds - 1/2 tsp
Tomato - 1 chopped
Potato, boiled - 1 medium size,
Green Chutney - 2 tsp
Lemon - 1/2 medium size
Green Coriander - 1 tbsp
Sprouted Moth Chaat Recipe:
Rinse and drain ½ cup of Moth beans 2times. Soak the dal in drinking water. Water should be 2twice the quantity of moth as the dal will puff and absorb the water. Cover the dal and set aside for 10-12 hours.
[After 10 -12 hours]
Strain the dal to drain out the water. Wash the dal once again with drinking water and drain out the water.
To sprout the moth, wrap it in a wet towel and keep it in a sieve. Take a plate, keep a small bowl on it, and place the sieve over the bowl.
Leave the moth for 10-12 hours to sprout. Moth sprouts within 12 hours, but we checked it after 20 hours, and it turned out very well. Let's move onto the next step.
Pour 1 cup of water in a cooking vessel. Add ½ tsp of salt, ¼ tsp of turmeric powder to the water, and bring it to a boil. Add sprouted moth to the boiling water and simmer it for 5 minutes over medium flame.
After 5 mins, press a grain of moth to check if the dal is ready. We don't want it to be mushy, just firm. Turn off the flame and strain the dal. The moth is boiled and ready.
Transfer the boiled moth to a bowl. To prepare Chaat, add ¾ tsp of black salt (or as per taste), ¾ tsp of chaat masala, 1-finely chopped chili, ½ tsp of roasted cumin powder, 1-chopped tomato, 1-chopped potato (boiled), 2 tsp of green coriander chutney, ½ lemon juice to the moth, and mix well.
Add some chopped coriander leaves to the Chaat. You can add olive oil too. Sprouted Moth Chaat is ready to be served. Prepare and enjoy this healthy and delicious Chaat.

We are fans of your recepies and try most of them. Madam, when we sprout moth it is giving sort of different smell. Usually we dont get such smell with moong. Is it normal that moth has a odour when soaked? We are from Bangalore and the cold weather takes quite sometime to sprout. Thanks.
