Fried Modak Recipe - Talniche Modak
These deep fried stuffed with coconut, jaggery and flavored with cardamom are specially prepared for the festivity of Ganesha Chaturthi. The shelf life of these modaks is more therefor we can prepared them in advance as well.

Ingredients for Fried Modak
- Wheat flour - 1 cup (150 grams)
- Refined flour - 1/4 cup (25 grams)
- Ghee - 2 tbsp
- Salt - 1 pinch
- Jaggery - 3/4 cup (150 grams)
- Coconut - 1 cup (grated)
- Almonds - 8 to 10
- Cashew nuts - 8 to 10
- Green Cardamom - 6 to 7
- Ghee - to deep fry the modak
How to make Fried Modak Recipe
For making the modaks, take out the flour in a big missing bowl. To it add refined flour, salt and ghee. Mix everything really well. Now add water in small portions and knead soft dough. Cover and keep the dough aside for 20 minutes to set.
Finely chop the cashews and almonds and peel the cardamoms to make powder.
Place the pan on a flame and add 1 tsp ghee into it. Then to the ghee add grated coconut and roast it for 2 minutes on low-medium flame while stirring constantly. Now add jaggery to it and mix well. Turn off the flame.
Mix the coconut and jaggery until blend well. Then add chopped cashews-almonds and cardamom powder to the mixture and mix well. Stuffing is now done and ready, transfer it to a plate and let it cool down.
Knead the dough again and divide it into small lumps. Lift one dough ball at a tome and roll it into a smooth dough ball. Now roll it out into 2.5 to 3 inch diameter poori. Place the poori on your palm and top it up with 1 tsp stuffing. Give folds all around and narrowing them together on the top. Close it well and likewise prepare rest of the modaks as well.
Heat enough ghee in a wok. When the ghee is medium hot, drop as many modaks as possible in the wok. Flip and turn the sides of modaks until they get golden brown in color from all sides. Drain out the fried modaks on a plate with absorbent paper to remove the excess ghee. Similarly, fry rest of the modaks as well.
- If the jaggery melts too much in the stuffing then place it in refrigerator to make it condensed again.
- Avoid filling the modaks too much with the stuffing as the modaks will splatter while frying in the ghee.
