Spinach Dhokla Recipe
Palak dhokla can be made in two colours. This dhokla is very tasty and nutritious. We can make palak dhokla and eat it in the morning as breakfast or during the evening as snacks.
Ingredients required for making palak dhokla
Semolina (Suji) - ¾ cup or 150 gram
Gram flour (Besan) - ¾ cup or 100 gram
Palak Paste - ¾ cup
Curd - 1 ¼ cup or 300 gram
Oil - 4 tbsp
Green chilly (Hari mirch) - 2 (Finely chopped)
Ginger (Adrak) - 1 inch
Lemon juice (Nimbu ras) - 2 tsp
Salt (Namak) - 1 ¼ tsp
Eno Fruit salt - 1 ½ tbsp
Curry leaves - 10-12
Mustard seeds (rai) - ½ tsp
Green chilly (Hari mirch) - 2-3 (cut lengthwise)
Sesame (Til) - 2 tsp
How to make Palak Dhokla Recipe
To make palak puree, wash the spinach properly and remove the stems. Put the spinach in a sieve so that all the water gets dried. Add it to the mixer and grind to make a fine paste.
To prepare the spinach paste, add ¾ cup curd to a bowl. Add ¾ cup palak paste. Now add suji as well. Add a little ginger and green chilly and leave some of it to be used in the besan batter. Now add ¾ tsp salt and 2 tsp oil to it. Mix everything well. If the milk that we have taken is fresh, then add 1-2 tsp lemon juice to it and mix well. Keep the batter aside for about 15 minutes. So that the semolina gets fluffy and is ready to be used.
Add ½ cup curd in another bowl. Also add ¾ cup besan to the bowl. Keep mixing it till the mixture becomes smooth. Add green chilly, ginger, ½ tsp salt, 1 tsp oil and 1 tsp lemon juice to the bowl. Mix everything thoroughly. We will add a little water to make the batter a little thin. The batter should have a consistency just like the one of a pakora batter. Keep the batter aside for 15 minutes. The besan will get fluffy and will be ready to use.
To prepare the dhokla, take such a utensil that fits inside a pan easily. Put a little oil in the utensil and make it smooth. Spread the oil all over using your fingers.
Now we will add 1 tbsp eno fruit salt to it. Mix it a little. The mixture will become fluffy. Pour the mixture in the utensil and spread it evenly all over.
Add 2 or 2 ½ cup water in a bowl and let it boil. Once the water in the pan starts boiling, put the dhokla on top of the stand. Now cover it. Cook the dhokla for 20 minutes. To check the dhokla, insert a knife inside the dhokla. If no dhokla sticks to the knife then it means that our dhokla is ready. Whereas if the dhokla sticks on the knife then cook it for some more time.
Leave it for 5-10 minutes, so that it get’s cool. After that we will take it out from the utensil and temper it. Firstly separate the dhokla from the utensil from all sides using a knife. Now put a plate on top of it. Turn its side and pat a little. Take out the dhokla in a plate.
Now cut the dhokla into pieces as per our choice. Now we will temper the dhokla. Put oil in a pan. Once the oil is hot add mustard seeds to it. When the mustard seeds are roasted add curry leaves, green chilli and sesame to it. Roast them a little. Now put the tadka on top of the dhokla. Spread the tadka on all sides using a spoon.
Very tasty palak dhokla is prepared. Palak dhokla can be served along with coriander chutney, tomato sauce or any other sauce of your choice.
Suggestions :
Make sure that the dhokla batter is neither too thick nor too thin.
Add eno fruit salt once the dhokla mixture is almost ready.
Do not stir the mixture too much after adding eno fruit salt.
The dhokla can also be made in a cooker.
We can put the utensil inside the cooker in the same way.
If you are preparing the dhokla in a cooker then do not put a vessel on it.
