Dozens of sarees are hanging in your wardrobe; you have all the variety and colors in front of you, but picking up the right saree for an occasion is always a difficult and a confusing task.
It is so because every occasion demands a specific color and texture of saree. If you don’t have your friends to help you choose, then apply these tips to look gorgeous on any occasion.
Office
Office wear should be formal and decent. Light colors such as browns and grays are your best bet when you want to get the ‘official’ look. Don’t worry if you are short on these two colors. Try any light shade of any color and you will be doing just fine. Avoid reds, as it is a color of frivolity. Starched cotton sarees or light colored silks make good office garment.
As far as saree works are concerned, you can stack away all the glitter to the back of your ‘office dress enclosure’. Embroidery is in, and so is chicken work. No stark contrasts please. It will ruin your office look for sure. Get harmonious colors, which match with each other.
Festivals
When you dress up for a festival, you sure want to look THE BEST. For that, you need to pick up a bright piece with lots of work. Bright colors such as orange, red, pink, yellow etc. are festive colors. You can select a saree with glitter, brocade work, sequins, mirror work etc. On festivals, get glittering and gorgeous.
Parties
You need something chic for a party. Designer sarees are the best choice for a party. There are many kinds of designer sarees available in the market. In some, matching design covers the pleats and the palla whereas the rest of the saree remains plain. In some others, the design on the pallu stylishly crawls from the back of the legs to the front. Pearl work is very much in fashion, and so are light colors such as cream, peach and white. Subtle colors and designs give you a decent and sophisticated look whereas bright colors and bold designs speak of generosity and daring.
Engagement
Engagement ceremony is of uttermost importance in everybody’s life. After all, it is an event, which you and your spouse will remember for the rest of your lives. For your engagement, buy a saree with a broad and intricately woven border. Sarees with a decorative border look heavy and gorgeous. Even a fairly simple saree can look spectacular if you know the right way to drape it. To learn 18 different ways to drape the saree, check out our DVD on saree wearing ways. There you can find many great ways in which you can use the palla and the border to bring out the beauty of the saree.
Traveling
Traveling clothes mean comfortable clothes. You might think that draping the six-yard cloth around you is definitely NOT going to be comfortable, but think again. A saree leaves your legs free unlike jeans that sticks to your legs like gel. The pallu of a saree can be used to cover the head in summers, which is impossible to do in jeans and top. In winters, you can drape the pallu around your shoulders to keep away the cold. Well, a saree is truly multipurpose.
Weddings
When going to a wedding, what you need to wear are ‘colors of happiness’. Reds, yellows, greens, blues; all these colors are a great eye-catcher in any wedding. You can either go for bold designs or intricate patterns. There is no such thing as ‘gaudy’ in weddings. You can sport any color or design in a wedding. Just take care that it is showy.
