Jeera Rice recipe | Flavoured Cumin Rice in Pressure Cooker
Jeera rice prepared with desi ghee, cumin seeds and little spices can be prepared instantly in pressure cooker as well. This special North Indian jeera rice are served as main dish or have them with steaming hot dal or any curry as per your desire.

Ingredients for Jeera Rice Recipe
- Soaked basmati rice – more than ½ cup (125 grams)
- Ghee – 1.5 to 2 tbsp
- Salt – ½ tsp or to taste
- Cumin seeds – 1 tsp
- Cinnamon stick – 1
- Brown cardamom – 1
- Clove – 2
- Black pepper – 5 to 6
- Coriander leaves – 1 tbsp (finely chopped)
How to make Flavoured Cumin Rice in Pressure Cooker
Rinse the rice well and soak them for half an hour. After half an hour, drain out the excess water from rice.
Heat some ghee in a pressure cooker. When the ghee is sufficiently warm, add the whole spices - cinnamon stick, black peppercorns, clove and deseed the brown cardamom and add the seeds. Saute for a while and then add soaked rice to the pressure cooker.
Stir and mix the rice to the spices and keep stirring constantly to saute the spices. Now add 1 cup water as well, followed by salt and mix well.
Put the lid on and cook the rice until it starts to whistle (within 2.5 minutes there is formation of steam in the pressure cooked) and the moment it starts to happen, turn off the flame.
When the steam escapes on its own from the pressure cooker, open the lid and check the rice. Rice have pufffed up and turned tender. Stir the rice really well and transfer them to a serving plate or a bowl. Garnish with some green coriander sprigs.
Really nice and puffed jeera rice are ready. Serve them with any steaming hot curry or dal and relish eating.
- If cooking jeera rice in any open vessel then add twice the quantity of water than rice. But if we are making rice in a pressure cooker then very less water is required.
