Cooking meat become very sweet by unknown reasons

Dear Madam,  When I cooked meat like 500gm I use only 250gm onions and garam masala powder, red chili powder and salt only. I cooked the meat in an open vessel to about 1 to 2 hours on very slow flame. But every time the meat dish becomes very sweet. No one in my family want to eat after that because of sweetness in meat. Mostly people said it is due to onions who becomes sweet after 1 or 2 hours cooking. Is this right, please tell trick…...
