Momos is Recipe of Tibet. It is a very delicious meal; therefore it is liked very much in India. Little quantity of oil is used in making Tibetan Steamed Dumplings because it is cooked by steam. Momos are very nutritious and easily digestible. Following recipe is for Tibetan Steamed Dumplings-

 Ingredients for Vegetable Momos

For Momos

Flour - 100 g (1 cup)

For filling

Capsicum - 1

cabbage - a cup (Grated)

Carrot - ½ cup of grated ago

Tofu or cheese - ½ cup out crumbled or grated

Sesame oil - 2 table spoon

Black Pepper - less than a quarter teaspoon

Red pepper - 1/4 teaspoon half (if you wish)

Green chillies - 1 finely cut take

Ginger - 1 inch piece has a grated.

Vinegar 1 table spoon

Soy sauce - 1 table spoon

coriander - 2 table spoon (finely chopped)

Salt - To taste (1/4 tsp slightly more)


How to make Momos

Take sieved flour in a utensil; make a soft dough. Cover the dough for 1 hour, so that it may be fermented and raised.

By the time prepared fillings. (To your taste onion and garlic can also be used)

Heat oil in frying pan, in it fry ginger, green chillies. Then add chopped vegetables, tofu and cheese and fry. Then add black pepper, red pepper, vinegar, soy sauce, salt and coriander and fry for 2 minutes with spoon. Momos filling is ready. (If you're using the onion and garlic, then fry the onion and garlic before adding the vegetables, then add the vegetable).

Prepare small balls from the dough. (about 20-22 balls are prepared from 1 cup flour). Now roll these balls with rolling pin into 3 inch rotis; fill them with fillings and close them like we close ghujhiya.

 Prepare all Momos similarly. Now steam cook momos in momo’s pot.  Fill up 1/3rd water in the bottom of the pot and put on the gas. Arrange momos in sieves of the Momo’s pot. Around 12-14 momos can be placed at a time in a pot. Steam cook these momos for 10 minutes. When momos of the bottom sieve are cooked then replace the other sieve. Continue steam cook till all the momos are cooked. Momos are ready.

Veg. momos (Momo) are ready. Arrange the momos in a plate (Vegetable Momos) along with  red-pepper sauce or coriander chutney.


          Chutney for Momos

We prepare many types of chutneys but a special chutney is prepared for momos, let us make the chutney to be eaten with Momos.

Essential Ingredients - Ingredients for Chutney

Tomatoes - 2

Whole red chillies - 5-6

Cumin - ½ teaspoon

Methi Dana - ½ teaspoon

Turmeric - 2 pinch

Hing- Pinch 1-2

Salt - To taste

Oil - 1 table spoon

Recipe - How to make Chutney for Momos

Please rinse and chop tomatoes; Please put oil in a frying pan and heat, roast hing, cumin and methi dana, put turmeric, tomatoes and red peppers Take, for 3-4 minutes until the tomatoes are cooked, cool it add salt to it and then grind properly it in mixer.

Momos chutney is ready to eat with. Serve it in a bowl.

If you like the taste of garlic then instead of hing you can add the clove of garlic (4-5), Fry garlic then add cumin, fenugreek, after roasting, prepare the chutney by the above method.


Cabbage and carrots are the main vegetable stuffing Momos. You can increase or decrease quantity of vegetables according to your choice and can also replace the vegetable with other vegetables. You can also use paneer for the filling. Paneer momos are very tasty.
