Foods for Toddlers


New born children drink only milk up to 4-5 months. Till then the mother does not have to worry about what to feed the child. Doctors advise solid food for children after 5-6 months. A good diet containing carbohydrates, protein, fruits, vegetables, milk is compulsory for the growing child every day. This puts forward a question before new mothers, 'how to prepare this diet?'

Hundreds of food products(for children) packed in tins are available in the market but food prepared freshly at home with love has no other alternative.

What and how to make food for small kids?:

A small child cannot eat what grown ups eat, something else has to me made for him/her specially.

1. If you are making Dal then put Dal with salt and turmeric powder in the cooker allowing it to cook. Open the cooker, take out little Dal with the water. If he/she is very small(4-5 months), then mash Dal properly. Put 1/2 tsp butter to the mashed Dal, then feed it to your child.

Apply Tadka on the leftover Dal(according to your wish) and dal is prepared for yourself.

2. If your cooking gourd, Chana Dal then put gourd and Chana Dal with salt and turmeric powder in the cooker allowing it to cook. Open the cooker, take out little gourd chana dal and mash. Add some of the dal's water and mix. Put 1/2 tsp butter to the mashed Dal, then feed it to your child.

Apply Tadka on the leftover Gourd Chana Dal(according to your wish) and dal is prepared for yourself.

3. While cooking rice collect the starch released from it, add little salt/sugar and make the child drink it. You can also mash the rice well, add salt to taste and little butter then feed it to your child.

4. Fry 1 cup Suji(semolina) in 1/2 tsp Ghee till it turns light brown. When ypu feed the child, heat 100 grams milk and put 2 tsp Suji in it, cook till Suji turns puffy. Add little sugar to taste, tasty Suji Kheer is ready to be fed to small children.

5.For a toddler's food mix roasted Moong dal, rice and Daliya(in equal proportions) and store in a container. Whenever you prepare food for the toddler, take out 2 tbsp of the mixed Khichdi, take 4 cups water and put in the cooker or any utensil to cook. Prepare fresh Khichdi and feed the child.

6. You can also keep Parle-g biscuits in the child's hand which they suck and eat lovingly. Put these 3-4 biscuits in half a bowl of milk, food is ready for the child. Feed using a spoon.

7. Prepare Kheer made from Apple, Chikoo or Banana and give the child to eat. Take some milk, heat it in a pan then grate one peeled apple and put in the milk.  Now put 1 tsp sugar, once the milk comes to boil cook for 3-4 minutes while stirring continuously. Delicious Apple Kheer is ready for the child. Similarly prepare chikoo and banana Kheer and give your child.

8. Mash banana, chikoo, papaya or apple and feed it to the child, give Kheer juice or mango pulp sometimes. You can also mash some of the vegetable you have cooked and give the child.

9. Mash fresh full cream curd with banana or chikoo and prepare tasty Curd Frooty then feed the child. Take some pieces of potato from your food, mash it with little salt and your child will love to eat this Namkeen Curd Aloo.

10. Squeeze 2 tbsp fresh juice form orange, Mausambi, grapes or apple and make ypur child drink. During winters warm the juice before giving it to your child.
Avoid giving areated drinks and junk food. Do not feed the child even by mistake with these harmful products.
