Bitter Gourd with Tomato Recipe

Masala bitter gourds prepared with tomatoes and some gravy can be prepared instantly and can be served as side dish. If you like eating bitter gourds, then you’ll surely like eating this tomato gourds curry.

Ingredients for Karela Tomato Receipe

  • Bitter gourd – 5 (200 grams)
  • Tomato – 2 (100 grams)
  • Oil – 3 to 4 tbsp
  • Green coriander – 2 tbsp (finely chopped)
  • Asafoetida – 1 pinch
  • Cumin seeds – ½ tsp
  • Turmeric powder – ¼ tsp
  • Red chilly powder – ¼ tsp
  • Coriander powder – 2 tbsp
  • Fennel powder – 2 tbsp
  • Salt – 1 tsp or as per taste

How to make Bitter Gourd with Tomato

Wash gourds thoroughly and dry them nicely. Remove stalk from gourds and cut them in round thin slices.

Wash tomatoes and chop them finely.

Add some oil in a pan and heat sufficiently. When oil is hot, add cumin seeds and asafoetida to it. After sautéing for while, add turmeric powder, coriander powder and sauté the masala for few minutes. Add gourds and salt in the masala and mix really well. 

Cover gourds and cook for 3 to 4 minutes on low flame, check later.

Open the lid and give the gourds a nice stir. Cover again and cook for 3 to 4 more minutes. Gourds have turned slightly soft and cooked aptly. Now add tomatoes, fennel powder, red chilly powder and some green coriander in the sabzi. Cook the sabzi as it for 2 minutes and stir at regular intervals. Gourds are ready, take them out in a bowl and garnish with some green coriander.

Tempting and delicious bitter gourd with tomatoes are ready. Serve this tantalizing sabzi with chapatti, parantha, naan and relish eating.
